Emilee playing

Emilee got a play mat from her cousin for Christmas. She has started showing real interest in things that are in front of her face. She tries to grab her dad's tongue when he sticks it out, her pacifier or a finger that is placed in front of her. I decided it was time to pull out the play mat for her. The first time she just sat and stared at the hippo, but didn't do much else. But the next time I put her under it she went wild. She swung her arms at the animals trying to get them. She plays with it everyday now when she gets home from the babysitters. It is fun to watch her get so excited and play with it.
Emilee is getting so big and we love watching her learn and discover things. She is so good with her hands for her age, but she always has been very adept at using her hands. She clasps them against her chest while she's nursing. She grabs any finger put in her way. She loves holding onto mommy's hair and I'm constantly pulling my hair out of her hands. Luckily I have a really tough head (thanks mom) and it never hurts when she tugs on it. She holds onto blankets or burp cloths when they are within reach. I stopped putting a burp cloth under her head when she is sleeping on her stomach because she would grab it with her hands and bunch it up by her head. She has such long elegant fingers and she loves using them.
Emilee also is good at holding her head up on her stomach, when she is sitting or being held. We no longer have to worry about supporting it for her anymore. She enjoys sitting and exploring the world around her. She also enjoys being pulled up into a standing position and standing on our laps or on the floor. Hopefully this doesn't mean she'll be walking way early.
Emilee is a wonderful baby that rarely gives us a rough time. She eats well and has slept through the night since she was six weeks old, starting with 6-7 hour nights and quickly moving to 9-10 hour nights. We are so lucky to have such an easy baby. We sure love having this darling angel around.
