MAYhem

On May 5, Chris and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary. Since it was midweek, we kept that day low key and went to Galveston the weekend following. We stayed in a resort that was down south from the seawall and more secluded from the craziness. We checked in Friday night and stayed through Sunday morning. We didn't really do a whole lot; we walked the beach, ate dinner on the seawall both nights, and swam in the heated pool. It was a nice, relaxing weekend.

This is the view from our hotel room. Our resort had this boardwalk that lead to the beach.
The beach was covered in seaweed. I'm too spoiled and used to pristine beaches in Mexico, so we didn't spend much time down here.

On Saturday night we ate at the Rainforest Cafe. We can say "been there done that" but not sure we care to repeat the experience. Atmosphere was cool, but the food was okay.

On May 15th David came into town with Neon Trees to play the House of Blues. Dave was able to meet us, along with the lead guitarist, at the Astros game that afternoon. We watched the game until we had to take them back for soundcheck at 3:00. Before soundcheck Dave showed us their bus for this tour. Not the worst way to travel. Dave and Chris

Dave got us the band's All Access Pass so that we could get in for soundcheck and the concert later without paying. We felt very cool flashing it.

Watching soundcheck was pretty cool. It was interesting to watch them while they weren't performing. They practiced a song from their EP that they have never played live before, "Attraction". They were adding it to the set a couple of days later. We wish they would have added it earlier, but not everyone felt ready. It was the first time they had ever practiced it together.

The show was great as always, and it was nice to be at a show where people were there to see Neon Trees.

We definitely enjoyed seeing Dave and spending time with him.

I've heard from friends that Galveston is somewhat disappointing. Especially after experiencing the great Mexican beaches I can imagine how you felt. As for Rain Forest Cafe. I couldn't agree with you more. We went once while we lived out in Maryland, and I was very underwhelmed with the place. And, I'm super jealous you get to see Neon Trees so much. Great music.
